Hi all, Can anyone tell me how much spirit I am supposed to collect from a 25 litre wash using 6 kg of sugar with Essencia super 6 yeast, also what percentage alcohol should I expect.

might be worth a look, although i forsee a few lost bottles of grog before you get it right. if it has the same effect as glucose then it might be worth looking at, the sweetness factor is another story all together though

Hi Graham

It depends if your are still using an essence. I know for me i use an essence(i have found Essencia blue saphire gin is the best), and simply drop 2 juniper berries in and live for a week before drinking, it just gives it a much realer taste, i dont ever take them out and find it improves dramatically with age.

Hi,

Has anyone a recipe or method for using juniper berries in gin?  I could crush them and add to the mixture but this seems a bit crude !  I like the added flavour of the berries.

well the only problem i can forsee will be a weaker tasting beer, dont throw it out. It has obvioulsy started fermenting and you wouldnt expect the fermentation time to take any longer because you still used the same amount of water.

You would still add the same amount of suger as a regular beer, ie a full teaspoon for a tallie or a half teaspoon for a stubbie, or a 2 carbonation drops per tallie and 1 for a stubbie.

You could still take a hydrometer to test when it is ready, you woulc be looking for about 1005 (or the same reading two days in a row), although the alcohol content shall remain a mystery to us all, you will prob need excessive testing to determine the  Smiley

Well the kit came from Brew Wizard and is 1(1.7kg) can of Brew wizard Draught and 1kg Brew Wizard Premium V.B Style kit.
So with the boiling process I added all up about 3.5lts of water then poured it into my fermenter. Then I added 23lts of cold water which totaled to be 26.5lts of water on my fermenters litre reading.
Well it has condensation on the lid and a scum mark around the top of the brew.
So by not doing your hydrometer readings how do you know how much sugar to add into each bottle?

DONT THROW IT OUT!!! thats silly and should never been done. Lets look at what we know, actually you still havnt said excactly how much water you put in. 26.5 litres is strange amount to put in?? what brand and beer is it?

How do you know it hasnt started fermenting as well? just because it isnt bubbeling? check for condensation and a scum mark around the inside of your bucket(will be on top of the water).

Dont worry about the hydrometer reading, i never take one anyway.
