Brews done under air stills
Righto fellas lets see what is going on, being new to this business I would like to know the difference of the balance in alc brewed thru the air still coming out at 55 _ 66% using 4ltls of wash. If I keep stilling the wash to about say half that ending up with 1.4 lts of alc at 54% what would be wrong with that? Any one done a shot at this, seems to me there is a lot of good wash going south, lets see if it is any good eh ! :-\

What I suggest you try is drawing as much alcohol out with each run of the still and then distil the alcohol a second time. To do this add 50% water to the alcohol you made and run it back through the still. I have never tired this with an air still but I have with other stills and it increases the alcohol percentage by at least 25%. Give it a go and let us know how you got on.

I have an Air Still as well and have found that you need to double distill, I always stop at 700ml. I get approx 4ltrs out of a 25ltr wash and put this in to the still and took out 2.5ltrs at 85%.

I am also keen to know how you went drawing 1.5lts out from each 4ltrs and re distilling with 50% water. How much did you take out the 2nd time.

Cheers

David

I haven’t used an air still but I would think you should get at least 8 litres at 40% after you have broken it back down. I have double distilled when I had a 5 litre Pot still and I noticed you lose a fair bit of alcohol by double distilling but its worth it.

Sounds to me like the air still only produces low percentage alcohol? I was always told if it was below 70% its rubbish has anybody heard that before?
What is the lowest percentage you can drink it at?
I know you break it down to 40% but when it comes off the still what is the lowest percentage you should go to?

i would run the still until it gets to above 90 degrees you just need to seperate and only keep for drinking the stuff over about 75%, the rest goes back in next time .  its up to you but you will definetly notice the difference in quality
